Applications Open For 2017 DLI Summer Camp Teachers 

The Confucius Institute at the University of Utah is teaming up with the Youth Education office at the University of Utah to provide a five-day summer camp for Chinese immersion students across the state from July 31- August 4. There will be 5 campsites this year. Each campsite will have five classes divided by grade level: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th-6th, and 7th-9th grade. The locations of this year's campsites are as following:

  1. Sandy: University of Utah Sandy Campus (10011 Centennial Parkway, Suite 100
    Sandy, UT 84070)
  2. Salt Lake City: University of Utah Main Campus
  3. Davis: North Davis Jr. High School (835 S State St., Clearfield, UT 84015)
  4. Orem: Cascade Elementary School (160 N 800 E, Orem, UT 84097)
  5. Brigham City: Foothill elementary School (820 N 100 E, Brigham City, UT 84302)

 

We are now recruiting teachers for this year’s summer camp. Teachers will receive $110/day for teaching in addition to $80 for a one-day training prior to camp.

The following are the expectations and responsibilities of our summer camp teachers:

 

  1. Teach the curriculum that we provide for the five days of camp (7/31-8/04) from 10:00-2:00 pm.
  2. Arrive thirty minutes early and stay thirty minutes after camp for preparation and debriefing sessions (work hours will be 9:30-2:30 pm for those five days).
  3. Provide on-the-job training for new guest teachers who will be demonstrating mini cultural lessons in your classrooms.
  4. Before the camp starts, you will be required to attend a one-day training on Thursday, June 8 from 9:30am to 2:30pm. In the meeting, an HR representative from Youth Education at the U of U will explain the teacher hiring process to everyone, the Youth Education Office Director will go over details of the camp and safety issues, our curriculum designers will explain your class curriculum and activities, and the master teachers from USBE will train you to be a trainer for new guest teachers during the camp. We will not be able to hire anyone who cannot attend this essential meeting.

 

All summer camp teachers should have legal working status in the US. If you plan to use OPT, Q1, J1, or an H1B visa to teach this summer camp, please let us know in advance. We need to get permission from your school district before officially hiring you. Priority will be given to returning summer camp teachers and current DLI Chinese immersion teachers, but secondary teachers will also be considered. 犹他大学孔子学院与犹他大学推广教育中心将在二零一七年七月三十一日到八月四日日联合举办为期四天的 “2017年犹他州汉语沉浸式项目暑期夏令营” 。本次夏令营将在五个地点举行,包含Sandy, 犹他大学校本部、Orem、Clearfield(Davis北部)、和Brigham City等五各校区,每个校区会有五个班:二年级、三年级、四年级、五和六年级合班、以及七到九年级合班(Brigham City 将不会有最高班)。我们将对外公开招聘夏令营的汉语教师,每位老师的授课薪资为一天110元美金。另外在夏令营开始前,会有一次整天的培训,孔院将会付给每位老师80元美金参加这个培训。

夏令营教师的工作职责如下:

  1. 暑期班授课时间为七月三十一到八月四日,一共五天,每天上午十点到下午两点,老师们必须在上课前30分钟到教室开始备课,下课后30分钟与汉办新到任老师们讨论当天和隔天的上课内容。
  2. 使用孔院提供的教材教导参加夏令营的学生。
  3. 上课期间负责培训、指导汉办新到任老师,并分配教学工作给新老师。
  4. 在六月六日星期二必须参加一次全天的培训。会中犹他大学人力资源部的代表会为老师们说明并展开聘用程序,青少年推广教育中心主任会说明所有夏令营的管理和安全注意事项,课程规划老师将分年级为老师们说明如何使用夏令营教材以及每日的课程计划,州教育厅的培训讲师会为老师们说明如何在夏令营期间培训新老师。此次培训至关重要,如果无法参加的老师,孔院将无法聘用。

 

我们将优先录取以前担任过孔院夏令营老师和目前任教沉浸式中文班的老师们。我们也欢迎目前在高中教中文的老师们踊跃申请这份工作。基于法律规定,我们必须聘用在美国有合法工作资格的老师。如果您是使用OPT、Q1/2、J1/2、或H1B工作签证目前在学区工作的老师们,请务必在报名表上确实填写,我们必须事先取得您所任教的学区同意并与他们协商好支付您工资的方式以后,我们才能正式聘用您。有兴趣的老师们请5月7日星期日前上这个链接报名。如果您有任何问题,请与高实琪联系 (shinchi.famekao@utah.edu 或电(801) 585-0988)。
