Chinese Corner

Join students and teachers to practice Chinese in a fun, informal setting! Chinese Corner is a casual discussion group open to Chinese speakers of all levels from beginning to advanced. We meet weekly to provide an opportunity for students to improve their conversational Chinese, make friends, and enjoy Chinese snacks!

(When we say all levels, we mean all levels! Don't be nervous to stop by, no matter your experience. This is a place to grow your speaking confidence and get more comfortable using the language in conversation.)

Starting Thursday, May 14, 2020: Cook with Chinese Corner! 

There are many things we miss about seeing our students in person, but we especially miss sharing lots of snacks! Over the summer, we want to make sure we're getting good language practice as well as good food, so we are organizing our very first virtual cooking class. We will share simple recipes and ingredients ahead of time, and we will prepare the dish together over Zoom. Use the ingredients you have on hand and join us to create tasty dishes in your own home! 

 

What you need:

  • 葱 green onions
  • 面条 noodles or pasta
  • 酱油  soy sauce
  • cooking oil

What you need:

  • 虾仁 shelled shrimp, 0.5 lbs (sub tofu for vegetarian option)
  • 鸡蛋 eggs, 5
  • 葱 green onions

  • Wide rice noodles
  • Onion
  • Green onion
  • Vegetables of choice (broccoli, bean sprouts, etc)
  • Beef (eggs for vegetarian option, more veggies for vegan option)
  • White pepper
  • Soy sauce

What you need:

  • Eggplant
  • Potatoes
  • Green peppers
  • Oil (a lot!!)
  • Garlic
  • Soy sauce
  • Oyster sauce

What you need:

  • Eggplant

  • Chili oil

  • Sago (a starch similar to tapioca)
  • Watermelon/mango/sweet potato for flavoring
