On Saturday, January 28, the Lehi High School Confucius Classroom held a community-wide Spring Festival Celebration at Skyridge High School. Over 2000 people came to participate in the Spring Festival activities and watch Chinese cultural performances.
Activities at the celebration included Chinese arts and crafts, opportunities to play with Chinese toys and games, and activities that broaden understanding about traditional Chinese culture Performances included the perennial audience-favorite lion dance, a dragon dance, and T'ai Chi fan dance. Students also gave a performance of the traditional and difficult to master Sichuan BianLian Opera. From costume down to music, the Bianlian, or, “Changing Faces” performance was very authentic, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
This is already the 7th year in a row that the Lehi High School Confucius Classroom has held Spring Festival activities and performances on such a large scale. The annual Chinese New Year celebration has already become a major event in Lehi.
