On December 12, 2017, Draper Elementary School Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher Yinyao You was presented with the 2017 “Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award” by Madam Liu Yandong, a Vice Premier of China, at the 12th annual Confucius Institute Conference in Xi’an, China. The Confucius Institute at the University of Utah (CIUU) was proud to nominate Yinyao You for this prestigious award, which recognizes his outstanding performance as a teacher in Utah DLI classrooms.
Yinyao You is the 2nd grade Chinese DLI teacher in the Confucius Classroom at Draper Elementary School. He has taught in Utah for the past 4 and a half years, and he contributes greatly to the DLI program by giving presentations at CIUU teacher training workshops and College Board workshops for new Hanban guest teachers.
As of this year, the Confucius Institute is represented in 146 countries around the world, comprised of a total of 525 Confucius Institutes (CI) and 1113 Confucius Classrooms (CC). Out of this vast network, only 30 individuals representing their CI or CC receive this award, and only five are selected from the United States. Out of those five, Yinyao You is the only guest teacher to receive the award -- the other four are presidents of universities or directors of the CI.
